Wilhelmshaven, September 2008
New building Hard coal fired power plant Wilhelmshaven
On 19th Sept 2008 the foundation stone for the new Electrabel Power Plant has been laid in
Wilhelmshaven in the Lower Saxony region. The 800MW power plant is planned to commence its
operations in the year 2012 after 4 years of construction time and a total investment of more
than 1 billion Euros. The ultra-modern hard coal fired power plant will have an efficiency factor
of 46% (for comparison: The efficiency factor of hard coal power plants in Germany averages at 38%)
Electrabel is one of the leading European enterprises in the power supply industry and market
leader in the Benelux.
The AIC GmbH Chemnitz has been commissioned with the Detail Engineering for vital parts of the
complex steelwork structure for the power house.
