Hoehenpromenade street will become "Heart of Gorbitz"
Until 2015 the dull pedestrian area in the heart of Gorbitz is to be transformed into a vibrant
boulevard. To date the Hoehenpromenade street at the Leutewitzer Ring is a dull pedestrian zone
without any shops or people there. On top of this comes the fact that non-rehabilitated buildings
of prefabricated concrete slabs (Plattenbauten) and run-down passages even intensify this impression.
In midyear 2008 a future workshop was launched for this reason, whose more than 40 participants
created visions of a vivid Hoehenpromenade as the new centre of Gorbitz. Amongst others, associations,
tradespersons, landlords and the quarter management contributed their ideas - everyone is interested
in increasing the attractiveness of this important centre line in the district.
Free space - living space - greenery - very good location - good view - close to city centre - modernly
developed - functionally designed - flexibly alterable - innovative - inspiring - vibrant -
colourful - communicative - young - suitable for families - adequate for senior citizens - favourable
rents - close to educational institutions: these topics have been taken in consideration while
planning the future development of the centre line.
According to the Agency of Urban Planning the remodelling will cost 33 Mill Euros. This can be
partially state-aided by financial means from the federal programme "Soziale Stadt" (socially
integrative city).
